This Thursday, on the 3rd of May 2018, Mitcham’s local election will take place. The voting will take place in south Mitcham community centre, Hazelmere ave, Mitcham CR4 3PR. Voting takes place between 7 am and 10 pm.

The labour part hopes to succeed at winning yet again in Mitcham. The MPs who are running to represent the labour party include; planning Rebecca Aisha, making Russell John and Pritchard Owen. The labour party says that they are “making Mitcham a great place for families”. Some of the things that the labour party has done include; cleaning up, remembering to care, saving our money, keeping us safe, housing and great schools and libraries.

For the local elections last year in 2016, the results showed that in Mitcham and Morden the results were that 69% of the voters voted for Siobhan McDonagh, from the labour party. Showing that the labour party is hugely popular among Mitcham and Morden. For the conservative party, they won 24% of the votes.

To vote in the local election you can visit the polling station, which is open from 7 am to 10 pm. Where you would take your poll card with you. If for any reason you are unable to do that you can vote post. But remember if you have a postal vote, you can’t vote at a polling station. The last way that you can vote is by voting by proxy. This means that someone can vote on your behalf. This is useful if you are overseas and it would be difficult to return your postal vote in time. Your proxy must be legally able to vote, and they cannot vote on behalf of more than two people unless they are closely related to them.
