In a hopeful advance towards improving the local community, Weybridge Town Business Group has aspired towards reforming the Christmas shopping environment.

During previous years, the lighting and tree present on Weybridge high-street have failed to truly animate residents; local business owners have observed this. It is through the addition of abundantly decorated Christmas trees that owners anticipate inspiring spirit and festivity. This association endeavours to achieve this through funding, and have recently set up a Crowdfunding page wherein locals can contribute to aid the project. This page is being advertised on the Facebook page, “The Weybridge Network.” Currently, it has proved prosperous as £1000 has been donated. Other funds have also been provided by Waitrose and Morrison’s. Owner of Geminera, Sharon Ferrari, commented: “I think it will have a major impact because it’s visual. People want to shop where it’s appealing.” She also remarked on how owners have noticed a considerable decline in footfall which they want to combat. One way they are taking action is through an artisan food and craft market taking place on the 2nd December, in a bid to get natives of Weybridge sampling local independent retailers. It is also an opportunity to activate the tree lights, and will feature a children’s lantern parade. As well as this, entertainment in the form of Wey Voices and the Youth Choir will be provided.

This is an exciting prospect for Weybridge residents, who can enjoy more pleasing surroundings in their area this year.
