Although the weather does not want us to realise this, summer is within our grasps, meaning as is the Cheam Charter Fair. This year marks the 757th anniversary of this event, dating back to 1259, which is to be celebrated on Saturday the 15th of May, only a couple short weeks away. Not only will there be tens of stalls embellishing the quaint village of Cheam for this anticipated afternoon, these will be accompanied by activities, such as an opening ceremony with the Mayor of Sutton himself and, later on in the day, a clog stepping dance performed by the Pennyroyal Clog Dancers.

Cheam Charter Fair is only one of the events taking place during the week to celebrate this traditional occasion, enabling local businesses and groups to interact with others working and living in Cheam. The unique opportunities available range from a Keyboard tuition session on the 7th of May, available upon booking, to a Tudor Dress-Up Storytime gathering on the 11th, both taking place in the Cheam Library, and even better, both for free!

Not only is the Cheam Charter Fair a great day out for the family, lasting from 9am to 1pm, but also a way of supporting Cheam’s local businesses and learning more about the community that you live in. As previous fairs have proved, it is certain this year’s will be a grand success for the village, with a grateful thanks to the members of the Cheam community who enable this tradition to continue year after year.
