On the 1st of October Year 11 Academic Scholars at Croydon High School took part in an evening involving giving a presentation on a chosen topic.

These topics ranged from, “Corporate Espionage” to the “Questions of Ethics” as well as, “The Development of the Brain through Language Learning.”

The topics were chosen by the students and involved independent research.

One student, Tilly Cascarini, when asked how she felt the evening helped her develop skills beyond the curriculum replied, “The Academic Scholars Evening helped me strengthen my independent learning and research skills as well as my time management and organisation.”

Showing how this opportunity was not only important for visitors learning from the Scholars but also for the Scholars themselves to develop their own knowledge on a specific topic and to strengthen their ability to present to an audience and meet deadlines.

A similar event was held by the same group of Scholars on the 21st of March 2023, showing how the performance of the Scholars in their most recent work is due to the ongoing support and opportunities the Scholars have, to develop and practice presenting and discussing their ideas and work.

Overall, the evening was said by one parent who went, Nora Harrington to be a “definite success” as, in her words the presentations were both,” informative and engaging.”

After each presentation, the audience were given the opportunity to ask questions and even offer suggestions, meaning that the Scholars could learn from those attending and make improvements to how they presented as the evening went on.
