How has dependency and access to AI affected students?
In the following years, the use of artificial intelligence has steadily increased to the point there's almost a dependency on AI.
This increase in usage of AI is not inherently bad as students can understand content, receive help on homework or questions they're struggling with and in general makes studying, learning content and school easier and straightforward.
In fact, AI could actually improve students performances by adapting to the students specific learning style and helping students understand content.
However, AI has cons such as impeding and affecting creativity, independent thinking and problem-solving.
By being a constant, accessible and informative source students may stop trying and putting effort into homework ,which could be significant to their learning or understanding of content, because sites that use artificial intelligence will find, condense and write out the work for the students.
These sort of sites are useful and helpful in summarizing content, introducing or teaching a concept, helping in essay writing and so on but if students use these sites intentionally to get some work out of the way they could be affecting and harming their own education.
Additionally, by having a site to write, summarize, brainstorm etc for you, you could start to lose your own creativity, independent thinking and problem solving because you've become so acclimatised to having some site do the thinking and solving for you.
Losing your creativity or problem-solving could be harmful to your education and future because you will have lost a unique view/mind but also because many other students will probably be using the same site, same answers and content and points and this could potentially affect your performance.
In subjects such as English literature and language, where creativity and unique and original views are valued, having the same answer and response as every other student will only hinder you and your achievements.
In general, as with many things, AI should be used in moderation.
It is okay to use AI if your struggling with a question, need to summarize or understand content or just need a site that is tailored to your own preferences and learning style but be careful of falling dependant on AI to do everything for you.
The work you as students are given are central to your learning and understanding of content, and understanding the content is vital and contributes to how well you do in your exams, and so by having something else do it for you, your not really learning or revising.
AI does not seem to have stunted or affected students educations but it is important that if AI is being used it isn't used for the wrong reasons, such as having it do your work for you.
