The top ranking law firms in the Uk today come under the umbrella as London's five 'magic-circle' law firms ; Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Linklaters and Slaughter and May.
Within the heirarchial structure of most law firms with managing partners at the stop, it was just last year in 2020, that for the first time a woman was introduced to lead one of the five magic circle law firms. As Georgia Dawson was elected as the senior partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and though a long way to go, it marked a significant moment of progress for worldwide gender diversity campaign in the legal workplace.
How does this compare to other firms ? Figures also show that just 18% of Allen & Overy’s global partners are women, and the difference between the others is not vast with 20 % for Linklaters and Clifford Chance.How long will we have to wait till there are more female managing partners at the top firms in the uk ...?This is still under debate, however there is evidence that more firms in the Uk that are launching initiatives, and implementing goals and strategies that are aimed at increasing their numbers of female partners, so maybe it won't be too long till we see another female manging partner within a top law firm...
