With over 10 years of success, the Sustainable Merton movement has proved itself to be an efficient trustworthy organisation which is most definitely capable of bringing about change in our local community. The hard work of the volunteers and the organisation continues to leave a positive impact on our local community.
I interviewed Amy Coyne, an employee at Sustainability Merton who kindly answered my questions. She told me about one of the most successful projects they did in recent years, Dig Merton: “The initiative aimed to help as many residents as possible to enjoy the benefits of working on local land – which could be anything from a park, a verge on the corner of an alleyway, to a flower bed that needs a bit of TLC." The project was a great success with an award-winning community orchard being one of the amazing outcomes of this project.
Amy added that a number of projects are still going strong due to the commitment and hard work of community members. The charity aids the community is maintaining and caring for the projects.
When asked about future projects, Amy replied," We are building an ever-growing team of local people who are passionate about improving our environment and want to make a positive, united difference in their communities. Local people who not only care but want to do something about it, are becoming our Community Champions."
