For the second week in a row, Welling United visited Hertfordshire, and for the second week in a row they returned home victorious.

Last week they won at Hemel Hempstead Town and on Saturday they claimed all three points at St. Albans City.

There was a great chance for Welling in the first minute when Aaron Cosgrave got in behind, rounded the goalkeeper but slid it across the six yard box.

Joe Iaciofano had a half chance for the hosts but snatched at it and screwed it wide.

Diaz Wright then got on the end of a move that he had started but fired over after receiving Bradley Goldberg’s clever pass.

Cameron James fired in a long diagonal pass aimed at Goldberg and although he got an outstretched foot on the end of it, he couldn’t kill it and Dean Snedker was able to collect.

At the other end Iaciofano missed a great chance when Welling failed to clear but he curled wide with Dan Wilks struggling to get across.

Further defensive uncertainty could have been punished but Wilks was out quickly to act as sweeper and he played it out calmly to Connor Dymond.

An Anthony Cook free kick found Dipo Akinyemi but his header hit Munashe Sundire and went out for a corner. However, from Cook’s delivery, Welling went ahead. Initially, St. Albans got it clear but the defensive header only went as far a Akinyemi and he fired home gleefully against one of his former clubs.

David Noble was off target with a free kick for the hosts before Welling again looked dangerous. Cosgrave held it up well and Akinyemi’s long range first time shot drew a good save from Snedker.

That was the last incident of the first half and it was the Saints who started the second half more lively. Scott Shulton curled wide for them but it would have been controversial had he netted as Chiori Johnson was flattened in the build up.

Whilst the hosts attacked, Welling launched a number of counter attacks but failed to make the most of opportunities when they had the defence stretched. However they did come close when Bradley Goldberg fired across the face of goal and Harold Joseph could not quite turn it in.

Soon after, Welling scored a second. There looked little danger when Akinyemi came in from the left wing but his shot from twenty-five yards took a deflection and left Snedker grasping at thin air.

Three minutes later, the hosts pulled one back. A scramble in the penalty area fell to Iaciofano and he prodded home from close range.

Snedker made a great save from substitute Korrey Henry after Wright sent him through then Goldberg had a shot deflected wide.

Once again, Snedker came to the Saints’ rescue with an incredible double save. First he made a great point blank range save from Goldberg then when it came out to Akinyemi, Snedker made a stunning save to claw out his header.

Substitute Jefferson Louis had a shot that Wilks did well to adjust his feet and get down and behind it but that was as close as the hosts got to levelling and Welling’s well deserved win took them further away from the bottom two.
