Following a hard fought F.A. Trophy draw, Welling United and Dulwich Hamlet will have to replay at Dulwich’s temporary home on Wednesday night.

For the first forty minutes, Welling bossed the game but then a highly controversial decision allowed the visitors back into the game.

Steve King named an unchanged Welling team from the eleven that defeated Weston-super-Mare one week earlier.

In the opening minutes Brendan Kiernan tried his luck but there was no power in his shot and Preston Edwards made a comfortable save.

Montel Agyemang slung in a free kick towards the far post but Kiernan, coming in at the far post, was unable to keep his shot down.

Another Agyemang free kick picked out Danny Mills who headed back across goal but Matt Paterson’s volley flew just wide with Edwards an onlooker.

Nassim L’Ghoul sent over a cross but Mills’ header was deflected over before Kiernan created an opportunity for himself but sent a curler high and wide.

Thierry Audel was next to spurn an opportunity when his free header from L’Ghoul’s corner failed to hit the target.

A very rare Dulwich raid saw Anthony Cook get behind Welling’s back four but Dan Wilks came out quickly and hacked it away.

Mills headed against the bar from an Agyemang cross but it wouldn’t have counted as he was deemed offside.

On thirty-two minutes Welling took a deserved lead, albeit in unusual circumstances. L’Ghoul worked himself into a good position but his cross went behind the strikers. Michael Chambers tried to clear it bur Matt Paterson blocked it and it flew back into the back of the net.

However, eight minutes later Dulwich scored their dubious leveller. Dominic Vose sent Nyren Clunis away down the right and into the penalty area. Caden Genovesi cut across and made a clean tackle but the referee didn’t see it that way and surprised everyone in the ground by awarding a penalty. Ashley Carew stepped up, and although Wilks went the right way, the conversion had too much power.

Just before half time Carew almost scored again. His excellent free kick hit the angle of post and bar and came out but Genovesi was first to the rebound and he hacked it away.

After the break, chances were few and far between but Welling had the better of them.

An Agyemang free kick was side footed over by Mills before another of his dead ball efforts curled over.

At the other end Gavin Tomlin’s looping cross was met at the far post by Nathan Green but his header had no sting and Wilks saved easily.

L’Ghoul had a free kick that deflected off the top of the wall and looped over.

As the game moved into the latter stages Kiernan cut in but Edwards was out quickly to block.

However, the visitors almost nicked it at the end when Sanchez Ming played a diagonal pass across the penalty area but Cook was unable to slide it in at the far post.

Now the two teams have to meet again at Dulwich Hamlet’s home ground in a replay
