MARK Eldridge became the Summer 2010 singles champion in the South London & Kent Pool Alliance after outfoxing former champion Craig Mallinder 5-1 in the final.

Eldridge, now representing Summerfield, played steady, if unspectacular, pool all afternoon in sweltering heat on Sunday at Woolwich Riley’s to lift his first SLKPA singles crown and cash prize.

Dropping just three frames in the whole of the competition, he was a worthy winner.

Riley’s A captain Adam Coppen secured the sudden death singles trophy.

In the one-frame format competition, it’s tough on anyone who makes a mistake and Coppen’s route to the final was far from easy, encountering some of the league’s better exponents of the game.

A missed pot from Fox Under The Hill’s Chris Gaunt allowed Coppen the chance to nip in, clear the balls and collect the prize.

The Hotshots have eased into a six point lead at the top of the Mechanical Welding Services Elite League thanks to a convincing 3-0 home win against Riley’s Rovers on Thursday.

With just two weeks remaining of the regular season, one more victory should be enough for the Hotshots to regain their crown as summer league champions.

Early pace setters O’Connors suffered a severe dent to their title hopes, losing without registering a point at lowly Riley’s A.

They now need something out of the ordinary if they are to get back into the race for the championship.

Riley’s Woolwich made the most of O’Connors slip up, crushing the Summerfield 13-2 in frames and 3-0 in sets to leapfrog them into second place.

An enthralling match near the foot of the table at the Pickwick, where Rack Pack visited, with both teams desperate for the points to ease relegation fears.

Rack Pack led the match all night before Gary Mason, in the form of his life, and Martin Storey stole the final two frames for the Pickwick in a 2-1 sets come from behind victory.

In the Tier Two East Division, the Royal Oak’s charge for promotion stayed firmly on course.

John Cochrane dug in for three frame wins and John Kinsville won both of his frames, as the Oak cruised passed the Blue Anchor 3-0 in sets and bar a major upset, should confirm promotion shortly.

Erith Snooker Master 8’ers haven’t give up the chase just yet and remain in the runners up position.

This week they put New Eltham Social Club to the sword.

John Ratcliff, Ryan West, Paul Williams and Glen Bradstreet all recorded maximums as Erith Snooker swept aside New Eltham’s young side 13-2 in frames and 3-0 in sets.

White Hart move into third spot after a walkover against Running Horses.

Three teams are slugging it out in the Tier Two West Division for promotion to the Elite League.

With the Coach & Horses not in action this week the Fox Under The Hill jumped into pole position by virtue of more frames won but the Coach have a game in hand.

As do the Bellegrove Social Club who dropped a set in their away win at the Dutch House Nuthouse.

They trail the leading two by five points, with all to play for before the season’s end.
