First division Kings Arms produced the shock of the round in the Team Knock Out competition of South London & Kent Pool Alliance this week with an 8-1 trouncing of premier division opponents George IV.

The Kings Arms are yet to be defeated this season but most punters would have favoured the much improved and in form George IV, but cup competitions being what they are, you can never take anything for granted.

There were uncomfortable evenings of pool for two other premier division sides as they travelled to first division opposition.

Riley’s captain James Grant admitted afterwards “the team just about got away with it”, as they won by a single frame at first division Bellegrove Social Club, whilst the Fox Under The Hill battled back from 6-2 down to win the deciding frame of the evening.

Steve Cole and Kevin McNelly provided the backbone for the premier boys winning 3 frames apiece as the Fox squeezed past Gallies 8-7.

The tie of the round was the all premier match up at the Beehive where they slugged it out with the Pickwick.

A close one to call on paper, but the Pickwick were just that little bit sharper on the night winning 8-5.

The two fancied teams, Hotshots and Jolly Fenman made light work of reaching the quarter finals.

Hotshots travelled to the Summerfield also from the premier division, but wasted no time in eliminating them from this year’s competition, with an 8-1 victory.

And the Jolly Fenman ran out winners at Lee Green Constitutional Club with a similar score line.

These two teams now met each other in the next stage and quite a match it promises to be.

The all first division match went in favour of the home team Riley’s Royals, but not before a good showing from the Eagle Tavern who eventually lost 8-6.

New teams are always welcome into the SLKPA, with teams consisting of 3 or more players and matches played on Thursday evenings.
