A 1-0 home defeat to Amersham Town saw Enfield Borough lose back-to-back games in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League.

Borough played the majority of the match with 10 men after Elliot Harris received an early red card for his reaction to a heavy tackle.

Alec Wallace scored the only goal of the game in the second half to hand Amersham their first win in four games.

The game had barely got going when Harris kicked out at his marker for a robust challenge, and he was subsequently sent off to leave his side battling against the odds for 89 minutes.

Blessing Tshibikubla, returning to the line-up after the 6-0 defeat to New Salamis last week, operated as the lone striker for the remainder of the game, and he had the ball in the net after 10 minutes when he finished from Micah Jackson’s pass, but the linesman ruled that he was marginally offside.

Strong winds were not helping either side to settle in the game and chances were at a premium for most of the first half.

Reon Thomas was proving to be the main threat for Amersham, but his lob at the end of the half comfortably cleared the crossbar.

Amersham looked the more dangerous of the two sides after the break and they took the lead on the hour mark when they broke quickly from a Borough corner. Harry Andrews’ initial shot was parried away by Kacper Wojcik, but Wallace was the first to react and squeezed home from a tight angle.

The hosts came close to an equaliser twice in quick succession as the Amersham keeper pulled off a good save to stop Ruben Carvalho’s free-kick and Frank Chandler’s rebound smacked the post.

That proved to be Borough’s last meaningful chance, and Amersham held on in the closing stages to take all the points.

Defeat leaves Borough 12th in the table, two points ahead of Amersham having played an extra two games compared to their opponents.

Next up for Borough is the visit of league leaders St Panteleimon in the semi-final of the Division One Cup on Tuesday, March 3.
