Ryan Charles said it would be a “dream come true” to fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if Anthony Joshua’s homecoming fight at the newly built ground comes to fruition.

The Edmonton boxer faces his final bout of 2019 this weekend when he goes up against Lithuanian Viktoras Razma, and while focussed on sealing a 100 per cent year, he couldn’t help but think about it as a potential venue for him.

He said: “There’s talk of Anthony Joshua fighting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April or May. My dream would be to be on the undercard of that bill. I’m a big Spurs fan as well so that would be a dream come true. I’d have to work hard and speak to the right people in order to do that but you never know, fingers crossed.”

Success for 33-year-old Charles would mark an excellent end to the year for him, sealing four wins out of four with a potential to add a third knockout to that list at York Hall this Saturday, and he feels as ready as ever to turn that into a reality.

He said: “I’m feeling good, I’m feeling ready. It’s been a good year. I’ve had three fights so far, three wins and two wins by knockout so I’m confident and I’m just ready to go.

“I’ve been training hard. I’ve actually linked up with a new trainer, a guy called Mickey Burke. He trains quite a few pro boxers and he’s a really good coach. I’ve been learning a lot from him.

“It would be good [to get the win], it’d be like an early Christmas present and that’s what I’m aiming to do – just finish the year off on a good note, get the win, look good and that would make me 8-0 which means I can move onto the next year and start looking towards titles.”

Razma, who lives in London but is originally from Klaipeda in Lithuania, is set to take on just the fourth bout of his career and is in search of his first win.

Despite that, Charles is wary of the threat he could pose and insists he won’t be taking his opponent lightly based on his record.

He said: “I don’t know much about him but at this weight anyone can cause problems. You’ve got to be switched on and ready. I’m not going to take him lightly, I’m going to be focussed and prepared as if it was a title fight. Maybe on paper it looks like he can’t cause too much of a threat but I’m not looking past him. I just want to focus on the fight on Saturday and then I can think about the next one after that.”

“When I get in the ring, that’s when I’ll figure out what I’m going to do and how to beat him.”
