It was double delight for Waltham Forest Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) on Monday night as twins Josh and Oliver Tanner made winning debuts.

The pair came up trumps at the Bedford ABC black-tie dinner show at the Mercure Hotel in front of a large crowd.

First out was Josh, 15, who was facing Stamford’s Liam Skirrit, with the Forest fighter making his mark early.

Working well off his jab, he controlled the contest from the opening to the last bell with some good range and movement to secure a unanimous decision from the judges.

Not to be out done, brother Oliver put in a tidy performance against Jalillie Illyas, from Hockwell Ring.

Despite being placed under plenty of pressure by his opponent, the Forest puncher was still able to land the cleaner and stronger shots to help him walk away with a majority verdict from the officials.

Delighted club secretary Ian Cuddy said: “We have had plenty of brothers box for the club over the years, but this is the first time I know of that twins have competed for us.

“I thought both lads boxed really well and I would like to thank the coaches for all their hard work with the lads.”
