Enfield Borough avenged their 3-1 defeat to London Tigers earlier this month by beating the same opposition 2-1 in the reverse fixture on Saturday in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League.

Bobby Devyne, making his first appearance for the club in over a year, was on the scoresheet along with Elliot Harris for the hosts.

He was joined in the starting 11 by Khallid Al Saud, Hamza Semakula, Harris and Richard Ennin, replacing Gideon Sarpong, Isaac Stevens, Mohammed Konte, Qais Muhammad and Ruben Carvalho.

Tigers made the better start to the game and could have taken the lead had Manraj Singh’s header landed the other side of the post.

Jamil Shallo then produced an excellent stop to keep out Patrick Tavares’ effort, but from the resulting corner he could only punch the ball into the back of Dervon Hurde’s head to hand the visitors the lead.

It took until the brink of half-time for Enfield to create their first real scoring chance of the game, but it brought about the first goal. Semakula’s shot from distance was scuffed into the path of Devyne and he rounded goalkeeper Luciano Martin before slotting home.

The turnaround was completed by the hosts early in the second half when they were awarded their first penalty of the season. Alie Bangura was denied by Martins but he collected the loose ball and laid back for Ennin who was bundled over, and Harris stepped up to fire in Borough’s second.

Tigers came close to an equaliser on a number of occasions in the closing minutes but were off target through Singh, while Joel Ramos spooned over a glorious opportunity.

The visitors’ lack of potency in front of goal allowed Borough to hold on for the three points, and they now sit fifth in the table ahead of this Wednesday’s game away at London Lions.
