A brace from Taylor Tombides wasn’t enough for Redbridge as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to leaders Saffron Walden Town in the Essex Senior League Senior Division.

Walden took the lead when Gavin Cockman ran onto Jack Leachman’s ball over the top and lobbed over Florent Gislette, but Redbridge pulled level when Charleston Browne’s cross was deflected into the path of Tombides to fire home and make it level at the break.

The second half began in a similar fashion to the first, and Walden regained their lead when Jack Isherwood headed home from a long throw.

That lead was extended soon after when Cockman completed his brace, and though Tombides managed to do the same before the game’s end, it wasn’t enough for Redbridge who were consigned to defeat.

Walthamstow were knocked out of the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday after a 3-1 loss against West Essex.

After going 2-0 behind, Lewis McLeod pulled one back to give the hosts a chance.

However, a third goal for West late on after their attacker broke through the offside trap sent them through at Stow's expense.

However, Stow did manage to make it through to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup after upsetting Aylesbury United 3-0 away from home on Sunday.

Callum Ibe saw a first-half penalty saved by Jack Hopwood, but Danny McCullock soon handed the visitors the advantage.

Stow were awarded another penalty, this time converted by Billy Jones to make it 2-0 at the break, and a third spot-kick resulted in Stow’s final goal, scored by Samrai Gebrai this time after Ibe was brought down.

Walthamstow will now host Chertsey-based side Abbey Rangers in the next round.

West Essex were 3-2 victors in their league match at home to Woodford Town.

A fast start saw Michael Mignot edge West in front but they were pegged back almost immediately.

Tom MacLeod then restored West’s lead only for Woodford to level before the break, however Mignot struck in the second half to edge West back in front, a lead they held until the end.

West Essex also advanced to the second qualifying round of the FA Vase with a 4-1 win over Park View last week.

Two goals from Mignot, one from Bradley Russell and an own goal saw them through to host Brantham Athletic in the next round.

Ilford also recorded their second league win of the season by beating Clapton 3-0 on Saturday.

Nicholas Kemayo opened the scoring on 12 minutes before Steve Sylvester doubled the lead with a header in the second half. Cliff Newby-Harris made the game safe shortly after.

As well, Ilford were knocked out of the BBC Essex Senior Cup last week with a 3-2 defeat to Holland FC.

Goals from Said Ali and Haaroon Belaid made it 2-2 at the break, but Holland edged ahead in the second half and held on.

Finally, Essex Olympian League Division Two side Epping Town advanced in the Senior League Cup with success over Corinthians.

Joe Thomas netted in the dying embers of normal time to make it 1-1 and send the game to an additional 30 minutes, and they found a winner through Joey May’s free-kick five minutes from the end.

They will now face Division One outfit FC Hamlets in the next round.
