Two members of Orion Harriers in Chingford competed at the recent Comrades Ultra Marathon in Durban, South Africa.

The 55-mile race was completed by Adam Baker and Martin Reynolds from the club, with Baker finishing in a time 7:38 and crossing the line in 690th place, missing out on the silver medal places by eight minutes.

The race alternates direction each year, with last year’s event being a ‘down’ run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, while this year saw competitors climb almost 2000 metres in the ‘up’ from Durban to the finish, which must be completed within 12 hours to avoid disqualification.

Reynolds, meanwhile, received a bronze medal for finishing between 10 and 11 hours.

Next up for Baker is a short breather before returning to action in three weeks time by running the marathon leg of an Ironman relay in Roth, Germany.
