Richmond-upon-Thames College started their men's Division Four campaign with an 86-68 victory over Loughborough University.

Despite coming up against significantly taller players, Richmond had no problem scoring points from the outset, with new signing Wojtek Rogacewicz a tower of strength on both boards.

Rogacewicz, with significant support from Angel Videyra and Randy Kabasele, completely dominated rebounding and initiated countless fastbreaks which were finished by high-flying Henry Wilkins and Ahmed Othman.

When Richmond needed steady leadership, they could rely on the experience of Runako Charles, who not only acted as true floor-general but also helped himself to 21 points.

The critical moment of the game arrived in the fourth quarter when both Rogacewicz and Videyra fouled out and Loughborough cut the deficit to seven points.

However, Richmond responded emphatically with Kabasele making good use of his huge frame as he bulldozed his way to a couple of precious penetrations and easy points from inside.

On top of this, Charles found wide open sharpshooters Wilkins and Othman who restored a safe margin with 4 consecutive three-pointers.

The Richmond team bore no resemblance to the shaky and unsure group of players which, only two weeks ago, struggled against weak opposition at Dorking.

Richmond scorers: Othman 21, Charles 21, Wilkins 16, Szyszka 12, Vidayra 8, Kabasele 6, Rogacewicz 2
