Southgate were defeated for the third time this season as they suffered a 4-0 loss against Men’s Hockey League Conference East leaders Old Georgians.

The OGs extended their unbeaten start to the season which has seen them drop points just once, a 3-3 draw away at Teddington, while Southgate had come into the game on the back of a big 8-1 win away at City of Peterborough.

Southgate had the first clear-cut chance of the game, despite early pressure from their opponents, but Timmy Smyth was unable to finish the ball in from the right.

Chris Rae made several crucial saves for Southgate before their defence was eventually breached by James Tindall, who overhead volleyed the ball into the empty goal after it had deflected up into the air.

The hosts doubled their advantage just before the break as Nick Barnes collected Ashley Jackson’s 60-yard pass and finished past Rae at the second attempt.

Southgate thought they had pulled a goal back early in the second half but it was ruled out for a back stick.

OGs then capitalised as a Tom Samuel penalty corner virtually sealed the game and Tindall converted his second late on to add some gloss to the score.
