WASPS 29, HARLEQUINS 29.

WASPS kicked off their Aviva Premiership season with a high-scoring draw against Harlequins in front of more than 75,000 fans at Twickenham this afternoon.

Wasps had their noses in front at 26-22 deep into the final quarter, but a converted try from Mike Brown 14 minutes from time turned the game on its head.

However, Mark van Gisbergen landed his seventh kick of the afternoon after 76 minutes to level it up at 29-29, and that's how it remained after Nick Evans missed a late drop goal to win it for Quins.

Nick Easter had put Quins in front with a try in the opening seconds, but Andy Powell crossed on debut and Tom Varndell also went over to put the black and golds 20-13 up after half an hour.

Van Gisbergen and Evans then traded a string of penalties to take the score to 26-22 before Brown went over.

Van Gisbergen and Evans both finished with 19 individual points, although Evans converted seven from seven off the tee while van Gisbergen missed two first half penalties.
