A thrilling match unfolded on the 27th of August with Wilson’s school playing Ardingly College in a T20 format with Wilson’s school playing away. The conditions were less than ideal with wet wicket and soggy ground really slowing the pace of the match down. However the sun started to shine and the pitch slowly started to dry out.

 

Wilson’s school captain Yask Thaker won the toss and elected to bowl first. Yash and Kaneesh Dharmeswaran opened the bowling attack against Ardingly’s openers. Kaneesh took a quick wicket in the second over of the match followed by 2 more wickets in the 7th and 8th overs. Yash Thakur, the captain, contributed significantly with his economical bowling, taking 2 wickets for just 15 runs in his 4-overs. Other important bowling performances included Ronik with outstanding figures taking 1 wicket for 1 run in 2 overs and Roshan matched that feat. Other wicket takers included Kushil taking a wicket and a crucial run-out as a result of Iniyan’s bowling. Due to the spectacular performances of Wilson’s bowlers Ardingly were restricted to 97 all out (0 balls remaining).

 

Then to open Wilson’s batting attack Navaj Nandwani and Ayan Deshpande took the charge with Navaj being the highest scorer in the team scoring 34 off just 20 balls. Navaj also hit 3 sixes in his spectacular performance. Wilson’s other opener Ayan scored 24 runs in his innings and his chance to score was cut short by an amazing delivery by Ardingly’s bowler. A key performer was Ronik Popli who scored 27 off 15 not out which enabled Wilson’s to win the game. 

 

Overall it was a spectacular game with Wilson’s winning against Ardingly in extremely tough conditions. The player of the match was Kaneesh due to his spectacular performance and “An inspirational bowling performance in challenging conditions” - from the captain. Wilson’s won by 8 wickets proving to be a wonderful start to set the tone and pace for the rest of the team for the upcoming season.
