PALACE boss Patrick Vieira has conceded defeat in the race to re-sign midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Selhurst Park and was one of the team's best players for much of the season, scoring eight goals and setting up three more in 34 Premier League appearances.

This form was good enough for him to be called-up into Gareth Southgate's England squad as well as making his international debut in Novemeber.

There was hope that the club would be able to buy Gallagher from Chelsea this summer, however Vieira is now sure that a transfer will not happen.

He said: "At the moment I don't think there is any chance because he is a Chelsea player.

"He did fantastically well for us, but he is in pre-season with Chelsea and honestly we wish him all the best.

"I don't think there is a way to get him back."

Gallagher was voted as Palace fans' player of the year for the 2021/22 campaign, but it now set to stay at Chelsea.
