PALACE are reportedly in a transfer battle with fierce rivals Brighton and Hove Albion in the race to sign FC Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi.

The left-back impressed last season as he played a key role in Porto's Primeira Liga victory, playing 40 times in all competitions and he even scored the title-winning goal against Benfica in May.

It is believed that the Portuguese champions would be willing to sell the 25-year-old Nigerian international for a reported €20 million, with the player's contract expiring in 2025.

Brighton have been linked with the player as a potential replacement for Marc Cucurella, who could be on his way to Manchester City this summer.

Palace on the other hand does have Tyrick Mitchell among the squad's ranks, who is a solid first-choice option but could see Sanusi as an upgrade and as a player who can help Mitchell improve.

According to The Daily Star, the two clubs will be battling it out for his signature, but they also face competition from newly-promoted Fulham.

Marco Silva's side have reportedly already submitted a bid for the defender as they look to avoid relegation in their first season back in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Palace are still working on a deal to sign Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure, having submitted a bid of €17 million for the player. However, this offer is still some way off the French side's valuation of the player, which is roughly €25 million.
