Ayan Mahajan is an up and coming badminton player playing at number 2 for Kent in the u16 age group. I interviewed Ayan Mahajan to find out his journey through Badminton.

What have you achieved so far?

Ayan: I have won u16 bronze in singles and u16 gold in doubles. There are many others but these are the most relevant.

When did you start badminton?

Ayan: I started in year seven and I am currently in year 10.

Why did you start badminton?

Ayan: I started watching badminton because of my dad and I found it fun. I then started playing and got involved with all the badminton in school. From here my interest grew and I started to get more serious about the sport.

Who is your idol in badminton?

Ayan: Viktor Axelsen as he is very commited to the sport and has achieved a lot such as being the 2020 Olymic Champion.

How much effort did you put into badminton to become so successful after only three years of training?

Ayan: I had to put in a lot of effort to get to the position which I am in now. After getting more serious about badminton (about halfway through year 7) I started training almost every day putting a lot of my time into badminton as I was and still am very dedicated.

How did you deal with any challenges that you faced?

Ayan: I kept my head up and knew that I was still far from my true potential and this motivated me to face these challenges with better fitness and more hardwork.

It is very obvious that Ayan is very dedicated to the sport and will succeed a lot as a young player.
