Arsenal’s round of sixteen game against fellow Premier League team Leeds on the 26th of October was an interesting match with some weight behind it; with the victor moving on to the quarter finals, one step closer to winning the Carabao Cup and a trophy added to the winner’s collection.

Despite Arsenal having the first shot on goal early on in the first half (Gabriel Martinelli),  Leeds appeared to be the better half with more chances and looking more confident than their opponents with close shots from players like Jack Harrison leaving Arsenal looking like they may end up being eliminated from the tournament. A chance near the end of the half for the Gunners gave them some hope although the shot by Emile Smith Rowe was blasted into the stands.

Just 10 minutes into the second half, after being subbed on for just 23 seconds, Arsenal defender Callum Chambers finished a corner from Nicolas Pepe with a header to put his team ahead, making the score 1-0 and giving the Gunners are boost of morale to keep them going. 15 minutes after Chambers’ goal, Eddie Nketiah, who had formerly been on loan at Leeds for half a season, took advantage of a substandard pass from Leeds, flicked the ball over Illan Meslier (Leeds’s goalkeeper) and finished the job with an awkward shot, settling the game and sending Arsenal through to the quarter finals.

Great performances from man of the match Nketiah, Maitland-Niles, and Chambers were notable as the Gunners continue on their journey in the Carabao Cup. Final score: 2-0.
