The spoils were shared in an entertaining game between Welling United and Slough Town.

Steve Lovell, the Welling manager, selected an unchanged side from the team that beat Concord Rangers in an effort to get some stability.

As has happened in three of their four previous games, Welling went behind within the first ten minutes. Joesph Lawal put in a dangerous cross and the Welling defence could only clear as far as Aaron Kuhl. He fired in a first time shot that gave Murphy Mahoney no chance in the Welling goal.

Ben Allen broke down the right hand side but the angle was against him and Jonathan North saved comfortably. Dipo Akinyemi then held up play well and picked out Bradley Stevenson but his first time shot flew wide.

Tom Derry headed wide from a Guy Hollis long throw and was again off target when meeting an Eitel Goueth corner.

Stevenson had a great chance when getting in behind, having been played in by Ade Shokunbi shortly before half time, but he slid it just beyond the far post. He was not to be denied, though, and in the final minute of stoppage time he let fly from outside the penalty area past North.

Early in the second period, Bradley Pearce got up well to meet a Che Krabbendam free kick but he headed just wide then Krabbendam sent Shokunbi away but he was unable to get it under control and was crowded out.

Krabbendam was again involved when Welling went ahead. His pin-point long pass sent Allen clear. North rushed out and Allen rounded him easily before slotting it past a retreating defender.

North saved from Akinyemi at the near post but chances were few and far between at both ends. Slough pressed but Welling blocked everything that Slough tried until two minutes before time. The visitors won a free kick on the right hand side and Freddie Grant delivered and Ryan Bird lost his marker to head home from close range.

In the additional five minutes, Stevenson shot just wide for Welling before Slough almost won it when Grant met Max Worsfold’s free kick but Mahoney positioned himself well to make the save.

Welling United: Mahoney, Barnes, Pepe, Durojaiye, Pearce, Perkins, Krabbendam, Stevenson, Akinyemi (Hinds 76), Allen (Brown 90+), Shokunbi. Subs not used: Ezennolim, Saunders-Henry, Campbell.
