Tim Flowers labelled Barnet “a team of losers” as they slipped to yet another defeat, this time losing 2-0 at home to National League promotion hopefuls Wrexham.

The Bees have now lost 12 of their last 13 league games and remain down in 22nd position in the table.

Luke Young opened the scoring for Wrexham with a fine strike four minutes before the break.

Elliott Durrell would make sure of the points with a long-range effort, with the visitors staying fifth in the table as a result.

After the match Flowers questioned his side’s ability to deal with both the mental and physical aspects of their relegation battle and said they were a team who would always find a way to end up on the wrong side of the scoreline.

“We’re a team of losers at the end of the day - we’re losing football matches,” he told the club website. “And it’s alright going ‘oh yeah well done, you tried’. Come on. That’s your job, man up and face facts.

“We find a way to get beat. We do alright, we do some good things and then we melt away.

“How many times have we said this season ‘okay that was a decent [performance] then we go away and [concede] three, four or five again?

“I don’t know why we can’t sustain, mentally or physically, the rigours of a National League season, and that is the truth.

“Listen, when I stand in there, I’m not buttering them up. I don’t care if they like me, I really don’t care. But the players have to know the home truths.”

Flowers was frustrated to see his players making, what he feels, are the same mistakes in each game. Firstly by not converting the opportunities they create and secondly by not doing as well as he believes they should be in defence.

“They’re poor goals to concede and once again I’m standing here saying the same story,” he said.

“We did create chances but we didn’t convert them, and unfortunately it’s the same old, same old, same old. Not only do we not convert, but we also shoot ourselves in the foot by conceding two poor goals.

“It’s a game that we should get something out of at the end of the day.

“We certainly shouldn’t concede two bog standard shots from distance because we were happy to zone off of not get involved, and flinch away.”
