Millwall boss Garry Rowett is hopeful he will have club captain Alex Pearce and forward Mason Bennett available for his side's Championship run in.

Both were missing for the 3-2 Derby County defeat at the Den on Saturday, with Pearce injured and Bennett unavailable to play against his parent club.

Traveling to Barnsely mid week, Rowett believes the duo will boost the Lions' faint play-off hopes, but feels the fixture comes too soon for Ben Thomspon and Aiden O'Brien.

"Alex Pearce will probably be touch and go next weekend, that could give us the opportunity to play a 5 which we’ve used so often, but we couldn’t do that today.

"Mason Bennett will be available, he was a big miss I thought today, just when you want someone to be able to go past people and open the game up, we didn’t quite have enough of those bodies on the pitch.

"Thommo [Ben Thompson] and Aiden [O’Brien] will be a little bit off yet, Thommo may have a small chance, but we will see.’

With the three-month break, injuries are a concern for teams as players continue to find their fitness.

There was a scare in the second half for Millwall, when captain Shaun Hutchinson stayed down after a tackle.

"It was just a block tackle; it opened his knee up a little bit but he was ok to carry on.

"Whether there’s any effect on that we shall find out.

"We’re a very small squad and what we can’t afford to do in these games is lose key players because that will be crucial."
