Lee Bowyer gave his surprising verdict on who he believes are the Championship best.

In a notoriously unpredictable league the Charlton boss gave his assessment of who the stand-out performers are.

“I don’t think there’s much in it with any teams we’ve played,” he said.

“Apart from Leeds United and Brentford, they stand out.

“Their pass and movement, they cause the most problems, but everyone else, there’s not much in it at all.”

The admission is surprising considering the Addicks recorded two home wins over the promotion chasers.

The Charlton chief also revealed he believes the fight for survival is between more teams than most expect.

Despite Charlton’s 3-1 win over Luton Town sending the Addicks five points clear of the bottom three to 18th, Bowyer believes there are teams above and below his side in the relegation scrap.

Victory was Charlton’s third win in five outings, and while the three points is cause for relief there’s no let up as teams below them including Barnsley, Stoke and Wigan all continue to pick up results, narrowing the distance between side’s above the Addicks including Hull, who following Saturday’s defeat at Preston are now winless in eight outings.

“There’s a lot more teams in this scrap than people realise,” he added.

“It makes it interesting with the teams above us.

“I told my wife, don’t worry about Barnsley or Wigan below us.

“The teams above us will get drawn into this, I believe that.

“Barnsley are in a good place, we are, Wigan had a great result.

“There’s a long way to go.”
