Lyle Taylor does not want to leave Charlton according to manager Lee Bowyer.

The mercurial forward’s contract is up at the end of the season and having not signed the new deal offered to him by new owners East Street Investments, it was thought this season would be the 29-year-old’s last at The Valley.

Bowyer believes there is a possibility that Taylor will be a Charlton player beyond his current deal however, so long as certain criteria is met by the club.

“There’s things that Lyle wants to see,” Bowyer said

“Lyle’s not kept it to himself that he wanted me to sign and stay at the club, and that would influence his decision.

“But there’s other things that if they happen, there’s a chance we’ll keep him.

“It’s a discussion between Lyle and the chairman, hopefully they can resolve the other things that Lyle wants to see at this football club, and if they do happen, there’s a good chance well keep him because he doesn’t want to go.

“The one thing I guarantee is for as long as he’s here he’ll give 100%, you can see that from the way he’s playing.

“Hopefully he’ll stay.”

Having joined from Wimbledon in 2018, the striker has been instrumental in the Addicks’ rise over the last 18 months, signifying his importance with his ninth goal of the season in Tuesday’s crucial 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Despite missing the majority of the current season through injury, his statistics still make for impressing reading with 30 goals in 58 appearances since his arrival.

“Lyle is priceless,” Bowyer continued.

“From when we brought him in to now, he’s been outstanding.

“It was so important we kept him, on Tuesday he had one chance and one goal, he wins us the game.

“He’s been out for 14-15 weeks, that’s a long time to have our main striker out.

“I’m just glad he’s here and we didn’t lose him in January, and for as long as Lyle is here, there’s a chance of winning games.”
