Waltham Forest caused a major upset in the Mens’ East Premier B league on Saturday as they ended Letchworth’s unbeaten start to the season with a 4-2 win.

Forest previously had only four wins from their opening 17 games of the season while Letchworth had only dropped points once.

Nate Last’s brace was the biggest helping hand for Forest, while Liam Radley and Seb Lancaster also helped to put them 4-0 up before a late rally from Letchworth halved the deficit.

A brilliant first-half performance from the home side was underpinned by some good marking at the back and a high work rate in midfield.

Radley, returning from injury, was also playing well alongside Ben Norton in midfield, and the latter came close to opening the scoring after an excellent through ball into his path.

Instead, it was Last who got Forest on their way with a close-range finish, and he bagged his second just before the break when his effort from the edge of the D went through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Within minutes of the restart, it was clear that Forest were on their way to a huge upset when Radley finished off a well-worked counter-attack.

Things got even better when Last, not content with just the two goals, added an assist to his name, dribbling through the Letchworth defence before teeing up Lancaster to finish.

Letchworth did begin to show their quality towards the end and two goals in the final 10 minutes will no doubt have had Forest rocking, but they managed to hold their own in the closing stages and see out a famous triumph.
