Lee Bowyer feels that deals to keep his backroom staff at Charlton will be a formality after he himself penned a three-year deal to stay at the helm.

Assistant Coach Johnnie Jackson and Goalkeeping Coach Andy Marshall have been instrumental in the Addicks rise over the last two seasons alongside Bowyer, and the manager believes they will be rewarded with the contracts they deserve.

“I think they’re close,” Bowyer said.

“I can’t get too involved but I hope they’re not far behind because they deserve it as well.

“They’re a big part of the reason why this club is moving forward so quickly, so I hope that they do get the right contract.

“I’m sure they will.”

The club announced that Bowyer committed his future to the club on Wednesday afternoon, hours before his side played out a goalless draw with London rivals Fulham at The Valley.

Negotiations between new owners and East Street Investments and Bowyer’s team had been ongoing for a fortnight, but the manager admitted that he had no intentions of leaving SE7.

“I’m pleased because I’m guessing this will be the last time in a long time I’ll be asked about my contract!” Bowyer joked.

“I’m over the moon, I would’ve liked it sooner, but it got delivered to me yesterday afternoon and I said lets get it done as soon as possible.

“It’s been dragging on over the last two years.

“I want to be part of this club, part of building things.

“Why wouldn’t I want to be part of what’s happening here?!

“We have a group that’s come in, the chairman has said a lots of good things, so to me this is the place to be for at least the next three years.”

With his own contract situation sorted, his next task will be bringing players in this January. With a mountain of injuries seemingly behind them, Charlton have players returning to fitness but Bowyer is eager to get new faces through The Valley gates.

“Myself and Steve (Gallen – Director of Football) have given our list to the Chairman,” he added.

“There’s not been much dealing in January, it normally happens towards the end of the window.

“I would’ve liked to bring players in sooner of course with the injury situation, because we were low, we’ve got some coming back from injury but the sooner we bring people in the better.

“I know the type people we need, the Chairman has the list, it’s in his hands and he’s working hard, but January can be difficult.”
