Barnet will have to face a replay in the second round of the FA Trophy after they were held to a 1-1 draw by National League North side Farsley Celtic.

Simeon Akinola headed the Bees in front after 10 minutes but the hosts, a division below Barnet in the league system, hit back in the second half through Tyler Walton.

Despite Farsley having the first chance of the game, it was Barnet who gained the upper hand early on and they opened the scoring after just 10 minutes when the ball fell to Akinola on the edge of the box and he curled into the top corner.

Ephron Mason-Clarke had twice been flagged offside prior to Akinola’s opener but he was continuing to look dangerous. He flashed an effort just wide of the post after jinking his way through the home defence.

The home side were creating things of their own and Scott Loach had to be alert to turn Jimmy Spencer’s drive around the post. Astonishingly, six back-to-back corners followed that save, but Barnet held firm to deal with them all.

Farsley’s best opportunity of the half came when Will Hayhurst delivered a ball into the area, but Dave Syers’ flicked header went just over the crossbar.

They did not have to wait long after the interval to get their goal, though, as the ball fell kindly for Walton seven minutes after the restart and he slotted past Loach to bring Farsley level.

Barnet almost restored their lead instantly when James Dunne saw his strike pushed aside by Scott Wynne, and the resulting corner from Medy Elito had to be cleared off the line without taking a touch from anybody else.

Mason-Clarke had the final opportunity to win it for the Bees, but his effort in stoppage time dropped just the wrong side of the post.

The Bees will find out later today who their potential third round opponents will be when the draw takes place live on talkSPORT2.

The replay of this game will take place at The Hive tomorrow night, kicking off at 7.45pm.
