Conor Wilkinson was praised by head coach Ross Embleton after he made his return to the side in the 1-1 draw against Grimsby Town.

The summer signing was making his first appearance since the stalemate with Bradford City in December, having been injured in the warm-up for the next game against Cambridge United.

While he wasn’t back on the scoresheet, Embleton praised the flashes of quality he showed in a position where some feel he is not as effective.

After the game, Embleton said: "I know it’s a position that Conor favours, I know it’s a position where he feels he can be a real threat. I think what we have to do more and more and better and better the fitter he gets, I nearly had to bring him off today, I suppose medically I probably would have been advised to bring him off.

“I think he gives us a real outlet if we get the ball to him properly. We did that on occasions today and he looked a threat. Could we be more effective with him getting in around Lee at times? Certainly, but I think that’s something we’ll have to evolve with him in the team in terms of the positions we get him into to be a threat, and like I said the more games he plays the more we can get him in.”
