Charlton came from behind twice to clinch a point against West Brom in a fiery game at The Valley.

In their first home league game under new owners East Street Investments, a young Lee Bowyer side showed their battling qualities against an experienced Slaven Bilic outfit looking for automatic promotion.

Josh Davison’s first league goal for the club cancelled out Kenneth Zohore’s strike after the Baggies forward capitalised on a Tom Lockyer mistake before the half.

The villain became the hero however in the second half as he headed home an equaliser with 15 minutes ago, cancelling out Naby Sarr’s own-goal moments after the break.

Poor Start

After a tentative opening from the Addicks, starved of possession they were gifted the first chance on seven minutes.

Sam Johnstone in the Baggies net, trying to playout from the back carelessly found Connor Gallagher on the edge of the box, who should’ve done better than fire wide of the upright.

Although having their share of possession the home side lacked creativity going forward, inviting pressure on the backline.

Dillon Phillips made a good stop to deny Hal Robson-Kanu’s deft header, but questions will be asked of the opening goal.

Dispossessed in possession after dawdling on the ball, Tom Lockyer gifted Zohore a free run at goal, an although Deji Oshilaja blocked the first attempt, Zahore was at hand to fire past Phillips’s near post, presumably already committed to the initial effort.

West Brom’s lead lasted five minutes however.

With Tomer Hemed available Davison’s start surprised many, but on 28minutes he silenced those doubters.

Like all good forwards he was in the right place to guide Naby Sarr’s wayward header home from close range following a corner.

His first goal in Championship football.

As the half drew to a close there was less football and more wrestling with Lockyer and Robson-Kanu both seeing yellow for their audition for team GB’s Greco-Roman wrestling team.

Still in the changing rooms

Charlton, seconds after coming out for the second found themselves behind.

Matt Phillips dangerous cross from the right finding its way into the back of the net from Sarr with Robson-Kanu putting the defence under pressure.

The goal sparked Charlton into life and they started to look meaning with Alfie D oughty and Connor Gallagher influencing the game more.

Half-chances for Doughty and Davison went begging and with it you sensed the belief in the home side, but just as Bilic’s side felt they’d weathered the storm Lockyer pounced with 15 minutes to go.

Rising highest from a hopeful Doughty cross, the Welshman headed home from 12 yards, with question marks over Johnstone’s keeping once more.

West Brom rallied late-on but the Addicks, marshalled by the evergreen Darren Pratley held on for what may turn out to be a valuable point as they navigate their way up the table.
