Here's how the Crystal Palace players rated in their 1-0 FA Cup Third Round defeat to Derby County.

Wayne Hennessey 7

Could do nothing for the goal and after that had little else to do. Commanded the high ball well which has been his achillies heel but was rarely tested.

Martin Kelly 6

Got the wrong side of Christ Martin for Derby’s opener. Got forward frequently but his touch let him down on occasion.

Gary Cahill 7

Still working his way back to full fitness but commands the backline so well. No matter who his defensive partner is, he seems to bring the best out of them.

Jairo Riedewald 6

Out of position on occasion as you’d expect from a man used to playing more central. Got forward frequently but often without any end product. Nice, neat, and held possession well, but didn’t have the thrust going forward you’d get from PvA.

Cheikhou Kouyate 7

Looked at ease at the back, playing his way out of danger when many would just clear their lines. A real bonus for Hodgson to have a reliable, versatile and above all quality player in his squad. Won the ball back in the channels a number of times showcasing his speed and strength.

Luka Milivojevic 3

Bad day for the skipper. Wasteful with set-pieces and it frustrated him. Had a little skirmish with Huddlestone before ‘the’ incident. Looked like a man disappointed with his own performance up until then.

Max Meyer 5

Looked busy and lively, kept possession but took an early knock and couldn’t shake it off. Withdrawn before the break.

James McCarthy 7

Looked calm on the ball and dug his team mates out of a lot of holes first half. Seemed to enjoy a more central role after Miliojevic’s dismissal with more responsibility on his shoulders.

Brandon Pierrick 8

Palace’s most creative source when he was on the pitch. Willing to go at defenders and drew a number of fouls. There’ll be plenty more from him.

Connor Wickham 5

This Is Local London:

Offered little, but was given little. Chased and harried but ultimately it didn’t drop for him. Unable to create by himself he relies on those around him to feed him. A target man, who wasn’t targeted.

Jordan Ayew  6

Another box to box display. Always looks to get on the ball. Helped out tracking back which gets the fans’ applause but means there’s no body further up the field to play out to. If he wants to lead the line, he needs to be at the front of it.

SUBS:

James Tomkins 6

Slotted in at the back as Palace went down to ten men.

James McArthur 6

Battled but offered little creativity.

Sam Woods 6

Made a great challenge shortly after coming on.
