Macauley Bonne has been ruled out for a "few weeks", Lee Bowyer confirmed, in yet another injury blow for Charlton.

The striker pulled up during the 2-1 defeat to Derby County and was replaced with Lyle Taylor at half-time, who himself was sidelined for three months through a knee ligament problem.

It means Bonne, who is the Addicks' top scorer this season with eight, will miss the trip to Swansea City on January 2 at the very minimum and forces Bowyer into some tough decisions heading into the new year.

He said: "I don't know how long [Bonne will be out for, but probably] a few weeks."

When asked whether any other senior players who have been sidelined could return in time for Swansea, Bowyer added: "No. It's in three days' time. No one's ready.

"The only thing is we've lost another striker so there's no one coming back between now three days' time and that's the way it is."

With Chuks Aneke, Jonathan Leko and Tomer Hemed all unavailable, it means Bowyer is now left with seven-goal striker Taylor and the young Josh Davison as his two main forward options.

Alongside fellow youngster Ben Dempsey, under-23s striker Davison came off the bench against Derby for what would be his fourth appearance this campaign.

Bowyer was pleased to see both of them get senior, first-team experience but lamented how current circumstances mean it is more difficult for Charlton to win matches.

He added: "It's good for the football club because the young lads are getting an unbelievable experience, but it makes it more difficult for us to win games. That's the reality, that's the facts.

"Yes it's good in one hand, but in the other hand it makes things difficult. I would much rather be doing it when we're comfortable and maybe two up in a game. Saying like, 'Go on then, go and get your first experience of it.'

"When you're two down and then you've got to freshen it up then it's not fair on the kids. It's not fair on them but that's where we are, there's nothing we can do about that.

"That's it."
