Huddersfield Town substitute Matty Daly struck in the 92nd minute to hand Charlton their fourth successive defeat in a game that lacked quality at The Valley.

Daly’s neat finish at the death gave the visitors a victory they deserved with The Addicks failing to register a shot on target.

A first half that reflected the miserable East London weather had little action while Lyle Taylor’s introduction lifted spirits in the second half, if not the performance.

Poor First 45

The first half was one for the purists.
With both sides struggling to deal with the conditions opportunities were few and far between.
Grant, on his return to his The Valley added energy the opening 45 but his final pass often missed his target.
One effort of note came from Steve Mounie who forced Dillon Phillips into a routine save from the angle midway through the half.
Charlton, looking to get out of their rut showed little endeavour going forward and were reliant on Jonathan Leko’s trickery and pace to spark them into life, which barring one mazy run which yielded Kamil Garbara to claim, he failed to do.
Referee Graham Scott brought the half to a close which also brought the chance of some goal action as one lucky Addick was given the chance to win £2,500 in the crossbar challenge.
Typically and fittingly they fired over.

Taylor-effect?
Grant forced Phillips into a good stop don to his left early in the second half as the break looked to threaten some life into the affair.

Threaten being the key word.

That was until the introduction of Lyle Taylor which brought the biggest cheer of the night.

Buoyed by his return and the energy of the Conor Gallagher, The Valley had a different feel.

Through Ben Purrington they had some joy down the left and on 70 minutes they had their first effort of note , as his cut back found it’s way to Chris Solly who’s goal bound shot was well blocked by Jon Stankovic.

Charlton did have the ball in the back of the net with eight minutes to go, but Taylor’s dream return was cut short by the linesman’s offside flag in the build-up.

The game looked to be petering out until substitute Daly expertly placed the ball passed Phillips from Florent Hadergjonaj cut back in the 92 minute.
