Jeffrey Schlupp’s strike gave Crystal Palace back to back wins for the first time since September after a run of five games without a win.
The victory sent Roy Hodgson’s men fifth in the table before Wednesday night’s fixtures.
The talking point during the fixture at Selhurst Park occurred in the first half however, Mamadou Sakho’s red card.
Poor control led the defender to make a rash and reckless lunge on Bournemouth’s Adam Smith, catching the right-back on his knee with his follow through after clearly clearing the ball.
Referee Anthony Taylor had no hesitation other than to brandish a red-card and give Sakho his marching orders in his first full game back from injury since September.
Fans were split in their opinion with the dismissal, with many claiming Taylor had no choice than to give Sakho his marching orders.
#Sakho has always been a liability 🤦🏻♂️ shocking tackle, def red! #CRYBOU

I’m watching the @CPFC v @afcbournemouth match & nothing’s really going on and then #Sakho happens 😂😂😂

If #Sakho cant make that clearance without putting his studs into the #Bournemouth players knee then he shouldnt be making the tackle in that way #CRYBOU @primevideosport #PremierLeague #EPL #AmazonPrimeVideo

Lack of Match sharpness & looks out of shape to me #Sakho #cpfc in my opinion contributed to the sending off

Yup, bizarre people claiming it isn't. High, dangerous challenge. He doesn't need to rip the players knee off for it to be a red-card. #Sakho #CRYBOU

While others felt the game had ‘gone soft.’
football is so soft now 🤮 #Sakho

Amazon crime #Sakho

Football is not a contact sport anymore. Laws of the game say that it’s a red but I wouldn’t have even classed it as a foul. His dangling stud catches the player after he’s taken the ball. Games gone #CRYBOU #Sakho

Played the ball #Sakho so shouldn't have been a red. What has happened to football? Can't even stick a challenge in these days

That's not even a foul let alone a red card 🤔 #Sakho #CRYBOU #AmazonPrimeVideo

Football used to be a man’s game #Sakho

What a joke. One of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen. Cannot tackle at all anymore #sakho
— Sam Gibson (@SamGibson_91) December 3, 2019
That's an absolutely embarrassing decision, got the ball about 4 years before the contact and it wasn't even a full impact. #sakho #bbcfootball

How is that a RED card #sakho ? He played the ball. That is just ridiculous #CRYBOU @premierleague
