Roy Hodgson revealed Crystal Palace were keen on signing CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov in the summer.

The Eagles manager admitted the club were interested in the 21-year-old, and it was reported a £15million bid from Palace was rejected by the Russian outfit.

Chalov scored 17 goals last season and has contributed five goals and four assists in 17 games this time around, alerting more suitors to the forward.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have registered an interest in the striker now valued at £25million, while Hodgson also failed to rule out another attempt to land Chalov when the transfer window opens in January.

“In the summer, we were interested in signing Chalov,” Hodgson told Russian TV channel Okko Sport.

“We watched players from different countries and his profile was very interesting for us.

“He was definitely worth watching but unfortunately, we couldn’t agree on a deal to sign him.

“Could we sign Chalov in the next transfer window? I don’t know.

"But we know that if one player attracts the attention from one Premier League club, others will also begin to follow him.

“The potential transfer could depend on how much CSKA wants and how well will he perform in the remaining matches.”

Palace have failed to impress in front of goal in the opening half of the season with Jordan Ayew the club’s top scorer with four goals, while Christian Benteke has failed to find the back of the net.
