Roy Hodgson’s pointless streak against Liverpool as Crystal Palace boss is misleading according to the Eagles manager.

Hodgson tackles his former employers at Selhurst Park looking to pick up his first positive result in five outings against the current league leaders.

The results, including a thrilling 4-3 defeat last season, he claims are misleading, as have been a number of his side’s recent results where they’ve picked up just one point from a possible 12, slipping to 12th in the league.

“We haven’t got that victory yet against Liverpool but we’ve been close on so may occasions and came away thinking it was an unfair one,” he said.

“We don’t go into the game with an inferiority complex but we respect what they have done.

“Where we are in the table, we are not exposing limitations when we end up on the losing side.

“We are aware of our strengths and weaknesses and that depends on the players you use.

“I have been satisfied with the team’s performances but I’ve had to hold my hands up and say the difference was a quality finish for performance.

“It is important for us to keep going.”

This Is Local London:

Palace have no injury concerns ahead of the fixture, with even Hodgson surprised that he has a full squad to choose from.

There were doubt for Liverpool however as they were reportedly set to be without key men Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Joel Matip for the weekend.

“I’ll believe that when I see it!”Hodgson quipped.

“We are counting on them playing so until I see the team sheet and they are not playing I am presuming that Jurgen Klopp will be able to pick his strongest team if not forced upon him through injury.”

As for the start to the season Klopp and his men have had, Hodgson was too experienced to know the league is not a foregone conclusion already.

“I don’t think Jurgen Klopp would appreciate me saying that (They’ve won the league already).

“To be eight points clear is fantastic performance and they are on a fantastic run.

“They will understand there are a lot of games to go and I am certainly anxious that we make it difficult for them tomorrow.

“We want to win the game tomorrow and we are fully prepared and ready for that.”
