Charlton would have beaten Millwall if Lyle Taylor had played, according to Lee Bowyer.

The striker, who sustained a knee injury while on international duty with Montserrat, has not featured since the 2-0 win at Reading on August 31.

Despite having missed the past two-and-a-half months he is still among the club’s leading scorers with five so far, alongside Conor Gallagher and Macauley Bonne.

And Bowyer believes Taylor’s involvement against his former club would have seen them claim all three points at The Den.

He said: “Do I think we would have won if Lyle played today? Yeah. I also think that we would have beaten Bristol City, I also think we would have beaten West Brom.

“I think he’s a big miss. He’s our main striker, he gives us everything. His hold-up play, his end product – whether he’s setting someone up or scoring – he takes chances.

“We were still in the games, that’s the positive I can take from it. We’ve come here, we were better than them, and don’t forget we’re a side that’s tipped to go down.

“We’ve got eight injuries at the moment, Lyle being one of them. Jonny Williams, who has five, six assists, is another player we’re missing. Our attacking players are the ones that are missing.

“[Erhun] Oztumer was the only attack-minded player that we had on the bench today. It’s difficult because you’re thinking, ‘Okay, who can come on and make a difference and open up, create something?’

“We haven’t got that at the moment, so the sooner we start getting bodies back the better.”
