Millwall and Charlton will re-new their rivalry at The Den this Saturday knowing there’s much more at stake than three points.

It’s been nearly three years since they last met, a 0-0 draw at The Valley in January 2017.

Often the form guide is thrown out of the window for this fixture, which may be a blessing as both sides are coming off the back of defeats.

Millwall fell to a 2-1 defeat at Reading while Charlton were humbled 1-0 by a Preston side who went top of the league.

Victory for the Lions would see them go within a point of a Lee Bowyer side who have struggled to maintain their blistering early season form.

Following defeat to Preston, the Addicks manager made no excuses and labelled it their worst performance of the season.

Equally as honest were his players who in turn were reminded that all will be forgotten should they register their first victory over Millwall since 1996.

Jason Pearce, at fault for conceding the crucial penalty which Paul Gallagher converted to seel the win, took to social media to offer his apologies, and as expected the Addick faithful were quick to support their captain ahead of next week’s derby.
