Charlton produced a ‘perfect performance’ in their 3-0 rout of Derby County according to Lee Bowyer.

The Addicks boss watched on from the stands as goals from Macauley Bonne, Naby Sarr and Conor Gallagher secured victory at The Valley on Saturday.

Serving the first of his three-match touchline ban, Bowyer heaped praise on his players for a near faultless display.

“I thought we were perfect from start to finish,” he said.

“Tactically we got it right, our keeper didn’t have a save to make all first half, and in the second he only had one to make and he smothered it.

“I think in and out of possession we were excellent.

“I thought we defended so well, our shape.

“It’s the first time we’ve played that formation.

“The lads are great, they take everything on board and do what we ask.

“I’ve got a great bunch in there and they just done surprise me. I’m running out of things to say to them, I’m so proud of them.

“They’re a pleasure to work with.

“I think we were ruthless today., it was a good, solid performance.

“An all-round performance.

“I watched a lot of their (Derby) games, they’re a good team.

“They’ve had a slow start to the season but the last few results been very good.

“We had to be at our best today.”

Speaking of sitting up in the stands for the afternoon, with his assistant Johnnie Jackson marauding the touchline giving orders relayed via walkie talkie, Bowyer admits there’s nothing quite like being pitch-side.

“It’s a better view where I’m sitting but I’d rather be down there amongst it.

“All the work is done Monday to Friday though, the odd tweak here and there, but it made no difference being up there.”

Charlton travel to Bristol on Wednesday.
