Jordan Ayew popped up in the 87th minute to ensure Crystal Palace left with all three points against London rivals West Ham.

Patrick Van Aanholt slotted home a penalty in the second half to level the score after a close-range goal from Sebastian Haller.

Despite Palace looking like the better team in the opening minutes, West Ham had the first clear-cut chance of the half when Andriy Yarmolenko muscled his way past Gary Cahill before slotting a ball into Haller only for the Frenchman’s shot to be saved by Vicente Guaita from a couple of yards out.

The Eagles looked as if they had broken the deadlock in the 35th minute when a brilliant piece of skill from Wilfried Zaha resulted in Jeffrey Schlupp having an open net to score into but the winger jabbed the ball towards goal as Fredericks cleared it off the line.

Guaita had a busy half this continued towards the end of the half when Cahill’s clearance of a cross ricocheted off of Haller and towards goal but the Spaniard instinctively batted the ball to keep the game scoreless.

Manuel Lanzini had the final chance of the half when an over-hit cross found Anderson who laid the ball back to the Argentinian but the midfielder’s shot bent just wide of the far post.

Haller managed to break the deadlock early into the second half as Fredericks played a ball along the ground into the middle of the box for the French striker to poke the ball under Guaita and into the net.

Palace were awarded a penalty less than 10 minutes later as Cheikhou Kouyate volleyed the ball against the arm of Declan Rice and Van Aanholt calmly stepped up to slot the ball home to level the score.

Despite Ayew having a fairly poor game the striker scored in the dying embers of the game to prod the ball home from a couple of yards out after Martin Kelly got on the end of an Andros Townsend cross.

Although West Ham pushed forward in search of an equaliser they were dealt their first loss since the opening game of the season.
