Christian Norgaard said Brentford’s performance in their 2-0 defeat to Preston North End was their “lowest” this season.

The midfielder, who joined from Fiorentina on a four-year deal this past summer, also apologised to the Bees fans who made the trip up to Lancashire.

Thomas Frank openly admitted Preston outplayed his team as Sean Maguire and Tom Barkhuizen were on target for the hosts.

Norgaard told the club’s media: “To be fair actually, I find it quite hard to find words for the performance today.

“I think it was, by far, the lowest this season and very strange coming off, for sure, our best game this season [against Derby County].

“We have to apologise to the travelling fans today because they were coming in numbers and we disappointed them and disappointed ourselves.

“We have one week to fix it and to make a better performance against Stoke.”

The Denmark under-21s international felt Brentford struggled with second balls and Preston’s deliveries in behind their defence.

Norgaard, who also made his fifth consecutive league start for his new club, urged the team to become more mature and learn from these kinds of defeats.

Asked whether he has a leadership role to play in helping prepare for the clash against Stoke City, he added: “Definitely. Also on the pitch today, I have to do better.

“Talk more with Pontus [Jansson], Henrik [Dalsgaard], see what’s not working and then bring it out of the team and we didn’t manage to do that today.”
