Leyton Orient women continued their excellent start to the season with a resounding 5-0 win against Norwich City at the Breyer Group Stadium.

Hayley Barton’s brace and a Sophie Le Marchand hat-trick ensured that the O’s winning run at the start of the season was extended to four matches.

Both sides made positive starts to the game, with Orient coming close through Le Marchand when her cheeky flicked effort went just wide of the post, and Norwich’s Megan Todd headed narrowly over from an in-swinging free-kick.

However, it was the hosts that broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when Otesha Charles played in Le Marchand, and she took her time to calmly slot into the net.

The O’s continued to push for a second in the opening half to no avail, but they were able to double their lead midway through the second period when Le Marchand directed Barton’s corner into the net.

A flurry of goals in the final 10 minutes was started when Barton tapped home a third from Le Marchand’s pass, with the latter adding a fourth with a powerful strike shortly afterwards after an excellent ball over the top from Danielle Griffiths.

The fifth and final goal was one to savour for Barton, though it has already been seen this season. Her in-swinging corner managed to evade everybody, including goalkeeper Hope Armstrong, and flew directly into the top corner to seal another excellent three points.

Next up for the O’s in a trip to Stevenage this coming Sunday and they will be on the road again shortly after that as they visit Actonians on Sunday, September 22.
