Neil Harris has believes that Matt Smith can become a prolific goal scorer in this current Millwall side as the striker is hard to stop.

The 30 year-old joined the Lions from fellow Championship and London rivals QPR in the summer and scored the equaliser in Millwall’s draw with West Brom on the weekend.

Smith, who was introduced in the 62nd minute of the game, made an instant impact as he caused the West Brom defence problems throughout the second-half.

His goal was his first for the club after the Striker endured an unlucky preseason, as he hit the woodwork, and had two goal line clearances in four games.

“He was a handful, wasn’t he?” Harris said on Smith’s performance against West Brom.

“I’m delighted for him that he got the goal. He could have had eight goals in pre-season, I’ve never seen someone with such bad luck through a run of games.

“He’s a player that can score a lot of goals for us, the way we play, the way we can dictate set-plays and get up the pitch.

“He can score goals in this team. "

Smith’s stature hides no secrets of his attributes on the pitch, yet Harris believes that knowing and stopping what he is going to do are two separate entities.

“People can’t cope with pace, people can’t cope with clever players. We struggled to contain someone like Romaine Sawyers who is really clever at one-twos, you know what he is going to do but it is hard to stop.

“He is good at what he does, It is hard to stop Smith. If we put the right quality in the box then he will get on the end of things. He is an experienced player at this level and he has a good goal scoring pedigree.”
