A last-minute equaliser prevented Barnet from beating Wycombe Wanderers as their second pre-season friendly ended in a 1-1 draw at the Hive on Saturday.

Dan Sparkes had given Darren Currie’s side the lead seven minutes into the second half, but they were pegged back by a late leveller from one of several trialists the League One side fielded in their first outing of the summer.

A lively opening to the game from the Bees saw no real opportunities created for either side until the 22nd minute when the visitors had their first chance, but it was repelled by Ricardo Santos.

Callum Reynolds was then forced into defensive action to keep Wanderers at bay before the Bees’ first effort came from a Jack Taylor shot.

Barnet had a great opportunity to take the lead almost immediately after the restart when Jack Barham was put through on goal after good work by Ephron Mason-Clark, only to be denied by Wycombe keeper Cameron Yates.

But the home side were not to be denied seven minutes later when Sparkes tapped home after fine work by Antonis Vasiliou, who continued his impressive start to pre-season.

Vasiliou then had an opportunity to make it two when he fired narrowly over from a Mason-Clarke cross.

Barnet continued to look the more threatening, with Mason-Clark the next to go close as he forced Yates into a fine stop.

However, the Wycombe keeper’s opposite number Scott Loach had to be at his best at the other end to deny Alex Samuel after timing his run well to go through on goal.

Loach was to be beaten in the closing stages though, when a trialist got in at the far post to tap home a cross.
