Charlton head in to the League One semi-final play-off with the best striker in League One according to his manager.

Travelling to Doncaster in the first leg on Sunday, Lee Bowyer made the claim that his 21-goal ace and Charlton's Player Of The Season is the division’s top forward.

Along with the goals, the free-signing from Wimbledon last summer has nine assists to his name, making him the man with the most goal involvement in the tier this campaign.

“He was the most important player we bought in to the football club in the summer, and now he’s showing the reasons why,” said Bowyer.

“I had a conversation with him two or three weeks ago and told him, ‘for me you’re the all-round striker now.

Priceless

“When he came he wasn’t and he’ll admit that.

“He’s worked hard and got his fitness up.

“There’s time you see him in the left or right back position tracking back, that’s priceless for us.

“We know he can finish, and we create chances, so does he.

“His hold up play is very good, his movement is good in the box, he doesn’t get marked in the box, for me he’s the best striker in the league.

“He’s proved that with goals and assists, he’s the all-round striker now.”

Karlan Void

Taylor started the season alongside Karlan Grant who until departing for Huddersfield in January was the club’s top scorer with 14.

With nine goals in his last ten games, Taylor goals have eased the goal scoring burden that left with Grant’s exit, not that Bowyer had any doubt about the Montserrat man.

“He’s our main striker if you like, but for me he’s been that all season, even when Karlan was here.”

Josh Parker – bit of luck

One player that was brought in to the club in January was Gillingham’s Josh Parker.

The striker has yet to find the back of the net for the Addicks in ten appearances, the most recent outing being the 4-0 win over Rochdale, but Bowyer believes it’s a matter of time before the 28-year-old gets the rub of the green.

“He just needs a bit of luck in front of goal," Bowyer said after the Rochdale win.

“Everything else is good.

“He held the ball well, his work rate, his unselfish runs that no-one probably sees, I think he played well.

“It was by far the best he’s played for us, he hit the post twice!”
